Shit.
The snow crunched beneath Reydan's foot as he closed the gap between the two of them. He dropped to his knees next to her.
Perhaps this was forward. She was kin, yes, but they had known each other for only a hair's breath over a year and a half. But he knew pain, and he knew that the pitiful form of his sister was in a lot of it, physical and otherwise. But more than anything, he knew what it was like to be alone.
He reached an arm around Pumpkin's shoulder, defying the child-like protest and withdrawing that came so easily when one was vulnerable. He gently pulled her closer to him, wrapping his arm securely, attempting to brace her on his own body carefully as not to harm her maimed arm.
"Hey," he said, his voice a quiet rumble, "It's alright. I'm here. You ain't alone."
He looked down at her and provided as much physical comfort as his presence could give. He turned his head and peered through the clear, dreary sky and peered that jagged monument of stone which jut into the clouds miles and miles away - The Nail. He took a deep breath and sighed.
We ain't ever alone. Isn't that what you always said?
